Dixie Diaspora is a compilation of Jewish music - 21 tunes ranging from Eastern European klezmer to modern folk music. In between are blues, dixieland, bossa novas and ballads (playlist) sung in English, Hebrew, Ladino and Yiddish, representing Jewish sacred and secular music over the past 600 years. Proceeds from sales of this CD will help the Chapel Hill Kehillah (Hebrew for "community") purchase their new home, the first synagogue ever in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Seven musical groups from Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill donated their time and talents to this project:

The Dixie Diaspora was a collaboration beginning with Elliott Mills'
whimsical naming of the project, all the way through making, recording
and marketing the music. Dedicated people throughout the Triangle gave
generously of their time and energy to make this crazy dream real. My deepest
gratitude is to producer David DiGiuseppe who, after one innocent phone
call for advice, emerged as the project's guru and my music rebbe. I also
cannot thank enough the more than forty musicians who freely gave their
time and talent. Thanks to Jerry Brown of Chapel Hill for use of his terrific
recording studio. Finally, I thank Carol Winkelman for her encouragement
in something that I had no business doing. For me, this album represents
the diversity and strength of American Jewish culture today, blending old
and new, men and women, voices and instruments in a joyful noise.
